Gardiner
Bear Awareness Gardiner is our flagship program, working in the northern Yellowstone gateway community to reduce human-grizzly conflict. Gardiner sits inside the core grizzly recovery zone, where bears regularly move through neighborhoods on their way between the park and the broader landscape.
What we do in Gardiner:
Free bear-resistant trash cans for residents (one 64-gallon can per household)
50% cost-share on bear-resistant cans for businesses and short-term rentals
Free electric fence loans to protect chicken coops, beehives, fruit trees, and gardens
Fall fruit tree gleaning to remove attractants before bear activity peaks
Bear spray rentals and giveaways for residents and visitors
Bear safety outreach in partnership with Gardiner Public Schools
