Cooke City / Silver Gate
Cooke City and Silver Gate sit at the northeast gateway to Yellowstone National Park, remote mountain communities with chronic bear-human interface and limited infrastructure. We work with local residents, the Cooke City Area Council, and partners to expand bear-resistant infrastructure and community awareness.
What we do in Cooke City / Silver Gate:
Bear-resistant trash infrastructure expansion in partnership with the Cooke City Area Council
Community bear safety meetings and conflict reduction planning
Bear spray rentals and outreach for the high-volume summer visitor population
Coordination with land managers across the cross-boundary landscape (NPS, USFS, MT FWP)
